VETERANS - MUST ACT WHILE IN GOOD HEALTH

ACTIONS TO BE TAKEN BY VETERANS WHILE STILL IN GOOD HEALTH
JUST DONOT POSTPONE THEM EVEN FOR A DAY
1.              While in service, we planned for all contingencies which might occur, whether in official or personal matters. However, after retirement many of us do not display the same meticulousness in our personal affairs. We feel that we still have plenty of time to go and will place our affairs in order In due course of time. When the unexpected happens, the NOK are left to clear an unimaginable tangle of legal and financial issues. It is obviously our responsibility towards our loved ones to organise our personal affairs, while we are still in good health, so that our NOK can receive assets as smoothly as possible. Some measures to ensure this are enumerated in succeeding paragraphs.

DON'T LEAVE YOUR FAMILY IN LURCH

CASE STUDY

PLEASE READ THIS CASE STUDY VERY CAREFULLY -  Life lessons shared   on the Web---

We always  believe we will live forever. Bad things always happen to others. Only when things hit us bang on your head you realise... Life is so unpredictable.... My husband was an IT guy ...all techie...And I am a chartered accountant...Awesome  combination you may think...

Techie guy so everything is on his laptop ...his to do list... his e-bill and his bank statements in his email...  He even maintained a folder which said IMPWDS...wherein he stored all login id and passwords for all his online accounts...And even his laptop had a password ... Techie guy so all the passwords were alpha-numeric with a special character not an easy one to crack ...Office policy said passwords needed to be changed every 30 days...So every time I accessed his laptop I would realise it's a new password again... I would simply opt for asking him 'What's the latest password' instead of taking the strain to memorise it.

LEGAL ISSUES -WILL YOUR NOMINEE GET THE MONEY ON YOUR DEATH -- HE/SHE WILL NOT MOST PROBABLY

Did you think that your nominee is the person, who will get all the money
legally from your Life Insurance Policy and Mutual funds investments? Ha!
That is exactly what you’d think if you aren’t aware of the legal aspects.
We assume a lot of things which sounds like they’re obvious, but are not
true from the legal point of view. Today, we’ll concentrate on nominations
in financial products.

PAYMENT OF OLD ARREARS - WHY NOT AT CURRENT RUPEE VALUE

OLD ARREARS : WHY NOT BE PAID AT PRESENT RUPEE VALUE BY INDEXATION

Since independence there have been numerous cases where the government employees had been denied their rightful dues for some reason or the other, compelling them to take legal recourse to get them after years of  legal battles and counter battles. The net worth of the arrears which, one may get paid after obtaining a favourable decision from the Apex Court after years of delay is many times low due to inflation over the period. The value loss thereby in the current real value of the arrears and the question whether or not the

HOW TO CALCULATE ARREARS FOR A PERIOD

1.    One generally shy away from mathematical calculations to work out the exact arrears over a period due to complication of time to time rates of dearness relief . The experts use EXCEL Sheets on computers for calculations which is not a cup of tea for every one. Using of a calculator is possible only if complicated formulas are not involved.
2.     We bring for you a simplified method of calculation of arrears for the known periods including the period of 5th CPC, the same is explained in simple words in the succeeding paragraphs.
3.     Method - You have known  the amount per month which has been due (Unpaid or outstanding) and the period for which the same has been due. This is how you go about:for the following periods :-

HOW EAST PAKISTAN SURRENDERED - 1971

How east Pakistan surrendered               BY   Lt Gen JFR  Jacob.
Though no war goes completely according to plan, this one went  off reasonably well, and on December 13, we were outside Dhaka.
The advance from the north went off well, and though the move of the two brigades was delayed the paradrop took place as planned. By December 13, we had about 3,000 troops outside Dhaka.
Meanwhile the American fleet was moving into the Straits of Malacca. Some in Delhi were panicking. The radio signals we were intercepting from Islamabad to the Pakistani forces in the east said "Fight on, you are getting help from yellow (China) from the north, and white (America) from the south."

However, the NOK or the legal heir should realise the need to concentrate on the immediate requirements to ensure the orderly transition  without the veteran / pensioner.

THAT LITTLE GIRL-I LOST LONG AGO

THAT LITTLE GIRL I LOST LONG AGO
                    by Shruti Dhand

Seeing these little girls play in the Ram Vihar lawns today, my mind wandered off to the thoughts of a little girl I had known years back. She was no different from these little girls with their hair tied up in pigtails. Such a simple and beautiful world she lived in, so colorful and fragrant. Even the little of things brought big joys to her; tensions, responsibilities, suspicion, competition were just another words whose spelling were difficult for her to learn! I still remember her coming back from school, throwing her bag off and all ready for her nap... her appointment with the dream fairy!! Evenings were to be spent with her best friends- her teddies and dolls... she couldn’t wait to share her every little secret with them! There was not a secret she couldn’t share ... the heart so clean and clear!!! Her laugh was in perfect accord with her heart filled with immaculate happiness...! Her eyes on the ever smiling face was the gateway of innocence she held within...with twinkle of the brightest star on a clear night…
